RM Robotics strives to not only excel in STEM, but to give others in the community an opportunity to expose themselves to the wonders of STEM. Through our various outreach initiatives, we create spaces for children and future STEM leaders to explore and discover the power of innovation.

TeenHub
RM Robotics has partnered with our local public library in order to bring programming education to the mainstream. Through Teen Hub, we provide every teen in our community the opportunity to learn programming regardless of the resources of their school or home. During in-person classes we provided laptops but now with COVID-19, we have expanded the learning resources we provide, like supplemental documents, so kids can thrive on whatever technology they have: from a county-issued Chromebook to a smart-phone. Finally, we give students a place to learn and gain experience using Python in a collaborative environment on our Google Classroom, where we post further learning and opportunities. GBT (George B. Thomas)
RM Robotics partners with the George B. Thomas Learning Academy to provide their students with STEM lessons that extend beyond the classroom, but also instill the values of problem solving through engineering and programming experience. We firmly believe, like the G.B.T.L.A, that any student can be successful and find a career, even against the achievement gap. This more formal educational setting allows for more cooperation, more personal connection, and more focused learning. We hope to inspire the children at the G.B.T.L.A, who use their community's resources to achieve highly, to pursue a career in STEM. KasTech
Kids Are Scientists Too (KAST) is a non-profit organization founded at Richard Montgomery High School which provides free after-school science lessons to elementary school students. RM Robotics began a collaboration with KAST in 2012, doing demonstrations and giving programming and engineering lessons. The KASTech program is designed to foster interest in innovation for kids 8-12, bringing students the wonders of STEM to the next level. |
STEM Presentations
RM Robotics actively seeks to engage and inspire our local communities by presenting at local STEM Festivals and STEM nights. There, we can get kids excited about robotics and get their parents' contacts, so that we can help them find local STEM opportunities. Our knowledge of local schools and STEM activities lets us get those kids engaging with STEM, like on on a FIRST Lego League Robotics team, for example. STEM InfoRM'd
RM Robotics created a podcast mini-series called STEM InfoRM'd in order to spread awareness and ideas of STEM to our generation by a more commonly used medium. The series includes 5 episodes, detailing the day-to-day processes of STEM professionals in different fields through interviews and discussions. RM Robotics has opened an engineering class online to anyone who is willing to come, free of charge for a second curriculum. By exposing elementary - middle school students to the basics of CAD, engineering design, and 3D printing, we hope to inspire kids to pursue robotics and engineering in the future. We use the online CAD called Onshape to increase accessibility, and by providing kids with individual and group projects, we give them a safe learning space where they're free to discover and be innovative, while getting an early start on teamwork and engineering. But most importantly, this class gives students to chance to have fun in quarantine! |
